Chrysler Raising Prices on ’97 Models
Chrysler Corp., the first auto maker to offer rebates on its 1997 models, said it’s raising prices on the vehicles. Prices on the Chrysler Cirrus, Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze mid-size cars will increase by $30. The company is offering $1,000 rebates on those models. Stickers on the popular Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans will go up by $200. No incentives are being offered on the minivans. The increases are on top of the company’s 1.9%, or $422, average increase on the 1997 models when they were introduced in the fall. Prices on the Dodge and Plymouth Neon subcompacts were increased $405 to reflect the addition of an AM/FM radio and remote exterior mirrors as standard equipment. Chrysler offers $1,000 rebates on the Neons. Its shares were unchanged at $33.75 on the NYSE.
