Loyola Ends Streak by Beating Brown

One month and eight games later, the Loyola Marymount men’s basketball team finally has something to celebrate.

The Lions snapped a seven-game losing streak, beating Brown, 79-70, Monday night at Gersten Pavilion.

Sophomore guard Tim Kennedy led the Lions (3-8) with a career-high 24 points and senior point guard Jim Williamson finished with 15 points and 10 assists, his first double-double.

Loyola Marymount’s last victory came against Cal State Northridge, 77-74, on Nov. 30.

“It wasn’t that long a month,” said Williamson, whose 10 assists were a career high. “We are having fun, actually. We enjoy playing with each other. For losing, it was as good as it can be.”

The Lions took control of the game on a three-point basket by Kennedy that broke a 20-20 tie with 7:04 to play in the first half and led at halftime, 43-29, when Kennedy made a three-point shot from the left corner just before the buzzer.

Kennedy made seven of 12 shots from the field, including four of five three-point tries. His previous career high was 19 points in a loss to Providence on Saturday.

Brown (1-8), playing its eighth road game--all losses--never got any closer than nine points in the second half.

Forward Ben Ammerman and center Kenny Hotopp each scored 15 points for the Lions.

Freshman backup guard Joe Bucci led Brown with 17 points.
