Herrera Sparks Upset by El Camino Real, 2-0

Gerardo Herrera scored his 16th goal and assisted on another Tuesday, leading the El Camino Real High boys’ soccer team to a 2-0 upset of Birmingham in a Northwest Valley Conference match at El Camino Real.
Herrera blasted a 30-yard free kick from the left wing into the corner of the net in the 36th minute to open the scoring for the Conquistadores (15-3-5, 5-2-5 in conference play).
Birmingham, the two-time defending conference champion, fell to 9-1-6 and 6-1-6.
In another Northwest Valley Conference match:
Chatsworth 4, Taft 0--David Mexia scored three goals for the Chancellors (5-5-3 in conference play) at Taft (1-5-6).
In other matches:
Rio Mesa 5, Hueneme 1--Jaime Ambriz scored three goals, giving him 20, and the Spartans (14-1-4, 9-0-4) clinched their first league title in the program’s 19-year history in a Channel League match at Hueneme (0-13 in league play).
Fillmore 3, St. Bonaventure 1--Angel Aguilar, Rafael Laureano and Homero Magana scored for the visiting Flashes (14-1, 11-1) in a Tri-Valley League match.
Burroughs 2, Valencia 0--Robbie Honicky and Stergios Economos scored second-half goals, and Jose Munoz recorded his sixth consecutive shutout to help the visiting Indians (16-5-2, 8-0-1) clinch their fifth Foothill League title in six years.
Saugus 3, Canyon 0--Erik Adeta, J.D. Rotteau and Jordan Albertson scored for the Centurions (16-4-3, 6-2-1) in a Foothill League match at Canyon (10-8-3, 2-4-3).
Paraclete 4, Desert 0--Reed Gacho recorded his first shutout of the season for the Spirits (9-9-1, 6-3) in a High Desert League match at Edwards Air Force Base.
Village Christian 2, Kilpatrick 0--Andy Rotunno and Dennis Lopez scored second-half goals for the Crusaders (13-4-3, 8-2-2) in an Alpha League match at Village Christian.
GIRLS
Monroe 5, Poly 0--Sharon Paulson scored two goals to help the Vikings (10-1-1, 8-0-1) extend their unbeaten streak to 11 matches and clinch the Mid-Valley League title at Poly.
Crescenta Valley 7, Glendale 0--Stephanie Rigamat scored four goals to increase her region-leading total to 42 for the Falcons (15-3-2, 9-0) in a Pacific League match at Crescenta Valley.
Buena 6, San Marcos 0--Amber Carr and Melanie Montoya each scored two goals for the Bulldogs (19-2-4, 10-0-3) in a Channel League match at San Marcos.
Hart 6, Burbank 0--Laura Qualls scored three goals and the Indians (18-1-2, 9-0) clinched their fourth consecutive Foothill League title at Burbank (0-9 in league).
Quartz Hill 3, Palmdale 0--Shauna Murray scored two goals for the Rebels (10-4-6, 7-1-1) in a Golden League match at Quartz Hill.
