Long Beach health officers hope to reach new and expectant African American mothers during today’s “Celebrate Healthy Babies” fair at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
In an effort to lower the relatively high infant mortality rate among the city’s African Americans, the city’s Health and Human Services Department plans to offer free food, children’s games and information booths at the annual event.
Although it is aimed at African Americans, health officials emphasized that everyone is invited to the four-hour event. It begins at 11 a.m. at the park, 1133 Rhea St. in Long Beach. Information: (562) 570-4400.
