Duck update--There are 25 games left, but today’s opens an absolutely pivotal stretch of 10 of 14 at home for a team that has fallen into 10th place. “We’ve got to win the majority of these games, like 75%,” Coach Ron Wilson said. “We’ve got to win seven or eight for sure or we’re dead--unless we’re extraordinary on the road, and I don’t see any reason we’d be extraordinary on the road when we haven’t been all season.”
Oiler update--They’re coming off a 2-2 tie against the Kings at the Forum on Saturday, but their young team has earned a place in the top tier of the Western Conference standings. The Ducks have fared well against the Oilers, winning the last meeting in overtime, 2-1, on a goal by Teemu Selanne on Feb. 8 in Edmonton. Right wing Andrei Kovalenko has tied his personal-best season with 27 goals, and Ryan Smyth, who turns 21 Friday, also has 27 goals.
