Candidates’ Forum to Be Broadcast

With little more than one week to go before the City Council election, city officials are giving residents a few options to get to know their council candidates before voting on March 4.
A recent Chamber of Commerce-sponsored candidates’ forum will be broadcast on the Calabasas City Channel at 10 a.m. weekdays through March 3, and 7:30 p.m. today through Wednesday and March 3. The cable channel varies among the three area cable providers.
Six of the seven candidates for three council seats participated in the forum, held Tuesday at the Las Virgenes Unified School District headquarters and moderated by Ellen Pangarliotas of the League of Women Voters.
The candidates are Deputy Dist. Atty. James Bozajian, businessman Craig Cignarelli, Councilwoman Lesley Devine, media consultant Toby Keeler, Councilman Marvin Lopata, attorney Robert Sibilia and planning commissioner and senior marketing executive Michael Tingus.
Although he attended the forum, Cignarelli declined to participate, saying he prefers to meet with residents on an individual basis.
The candidates discussed a variety of issues, including specific and general development projects and ways to alleviate traffic woes.
The city also has official candidate statements posted on its World Wide Web site, with short biographies on most of the candidates as well as a listing of their qualifications and opinions on some issues.
