My Favorite Weekend

Friday evening: I am whipped come Friday night. So my exciting weekend begins with a late microwave dinner at home and a good book till I nod off.
Saturday morning: This is the only day of the week when I can work out without watching the clock. I often play tennis with Phyllis Adler, a nationally ranked over-60 tennis player.
Saturday afternoon: Lunch is at, say, Book Soup in Hollywood. The bookstore next door is great for browsing.
Saturday evening: Movie and dinner. I enjoy the Grill in Beverly Hills, and I like the soul food at Aunt Kizzy’s Kitchen in Marina del Rey. It’s convenient, and there’s a multiplex nearby.
Sunday morning: L.A. Times and the New York Times in bed, a cup of tea. Paradise. For background noise, CBS’ “This Morning.” On most Sundays, I visit my parents. If I want Mom’s pancakes and bacon, gotta get there before 10. If I give her proper notice, I may even get an apple pie or peach cobbler care package.
Sunday night: I am hopefully finishing an essay for my newsletter, and I’ve begun preparing for Monday’s program.
