Long Beach State’s Manarino Gets His 500th Career Victory

Long Beach State Coach Pete Manarino picked up his 500th career victory as the 49ers swept a Big West softball doubleheader from Sacramento State, winning, 2-1 and 2-0.
Amanda Adams and Tiffany Blood hit back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning of the second game to break up a scoreless tie. Manarino’s record is 500-310-1.
The 49ers (22-8, 5-3) added an insurance run in the sixth. Amy Miner went the distance to raise her record to 7-3 on the season.
In the first game, Long Beach State’s Christy Tucker scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Sacramento State second baseman Robin Jury committed a throwing error that enabled Tucker to score from second.
Pitcher Tammy Dietrich (11-4) battled Sacramento State’s Amy Barker (3-4) into extra innings before Jury’s error sealed the victory for Long Beach State.
Sacramento State dropped to 17-9-1, 5-3.
