Passenger Plane Crashes, Killing 50

A civilian airliner exploded and crashed shortly after taking off from the southern city of Stavropol, killing all 50 people on board. Officials said it was too early to determine what caused the crash of the Stavropol Airlines AN-24. The 41 passengers and nine crew members were headed to the Turkish city of Trabzon on the Black Sea coast, a popular destination among Russian “shuttle traders” who buy consumer goods to sell back home.
