The second Newport Beach International Film Festival opens tonight with the world premiere of the director’s cut of Wolfgang Petersen’s 1981 film about a German U-boat, “Das Boot.” The new version adds about an hour of previously unseen footage.
The festival comprises more than 80 films--from shorts to full-length features and documentaries to Clio Award-winning commercials--by independent filmmakers from 25 countries, screening at 10 theaters around the county.
