The county district attorney’s office Wednesday filed a civil complaint accusing Shoe City, a Fullerton-based chain of athletic shoe stores, of unfair business practices and misleading advertising, according to court documents.
The complaint, filed in Superior Court, alleges that in comparing prices between Shoe City products and other stores, company officials and employees knowingly misrepresented the “regular price,” or the prevailing market price. The complaint alleges the practice has occurred for at least three years at six area stores.
Named in the complaint were Shoe City stores in Westminster, Fullerton, Orange, Cypress/Stanton and two unknown locations.
The district attorney’s office asked the court to fine the company $2,500 for each alleged violation.
