Scott Moser of Huntington Beach High School, the nation’s leading prep discus thrower, has orally committed to UCLA, Oiler Coach Tony Ciarelli said Thursday.
Moser, the defending state champion in the discus, has thrown 206 feet 2 inches to move to second on the state’s all-time list behind Capistrano Valley’s Brian Blutreich (210-8). Blutreich also attended UCLA and was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic team.
Moser, who is also the county leader in the shotput (56-3), expects to sign with the Bruins Wednesday.
