A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a migrant farm worker wanted in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old man in Oxnard.
Oxnard police officials say 24-year-old Tony Nava Martinez allegedly shot Noe Guzman Romero once in the chest with a handgun, after Guzman tried to quell an argument between Martinez and another man.
The shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. Monday outside Guzman’s home in the 5300 block of Cypress Road.
Witnesses told police that the three men had been drinking beer in the street when they began arguing. The yelling stopped, and Guzman even shook hands with one of the other men, who both lived across the street.
The men drank some more, and soon began arguing again. Police said Martinez, who also goes by the name Roberto Nava, allegedly got a gun from his house and shot Guzman.
Guzman died at the scene.
Martinez may have fled to Iguala or Tehuixtla in the Mexican state of Guerrero, according to Oxnard Police Det. Mike Palmieri. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on Martinez’s whereabouts is asked to call Ventura County Crime Stoppers at 385-TALK.
