Albert A. Myers, a Ventura County native, longtime Ojai rancher and avid member of the Church of the Nazarene, died Monday in an Ojai hospital after a brief illness. He was 78.
Myers was born in Oxnard on March 23, 1919, and graduated from Oxnard High School.
He moved to Ojai with his wife in 1943. The couple raised two sons there and became active members of the Church of the Nazarene in 1948.
Myers worked as a foreman at Holve Ranch in Ojai for 38 years until his retirement in 1993.
Dorothy Myers, his wife of 57 years, said her husband followed in the footsteps of his own father, who was a citrus rancher in Camarillo.
“He’s just always been around ranching,” she said.
Myers is also survived by son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Eleanor Myers of Aiken, S. C.; son and daughter-in-law Stanley and Norma Myers of Frazier Park; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Dorothy and Albert Myers worshiped for years at the Church of the Nazarene in Ojai, where he “held about every office” and enjoyed working with children, the Missionary Society and Sunday school, Dorothy Myers said.
“We’ve always been interested in helping people,” she said.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dan Hull officiating. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
