I appreciate your interest in the activities of the Princeton Club (“Parties That Sell Colleges,” April 30).
As I told your reporter, Princeton seeks out and encourages applications from minority students from Southern California and other areas. I added that, unfortunately, we sometimes find ourselves being perceived as very white, very rich and very male. When this sound bite appeared in the article, it characterized Princeton as a place that is presently very white, very rich and very male. While this may have been the case 50 years ago, it is not the case now. Students come from 50 states and 50 countries and a wide variety of ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds.
As I explained to your reporter, the Princeton student body is 29% minority and 6% international. Since it began admitting women in the late ‘60s, Princeton has grown to 47% women. About 44% of the students receive financial aid that is entirely need-based.
I also would like to correct a caption in one of your photographs. Josh Klevens, who was described as a prospective student, actually was a member of the class of ’96 and is currently a business analyst at McKinsey & Co.
