Lancaster Cashes In Early on San Bernardino Miscues

The Lancaster JetHawks scored five runs on three errors in the first inning and went on to defeat the San Bernardino Stampede, 7-4, Wednesday night at San Bernardino.
Yunni Kim drove in two runs with two hits and James Clifford had two hits and drove in one run for the JetHawks, but Dusty Wathan had his 11-game hitting streak ended. He was 0 for 4 and struck out three times.
Jeff Farnsworth (1-1) pitched five innings, allowing four runs and five hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

JetHawk first baseman James Clifford shared California League batter of the week honors with Visalia’s Ryan Christensen, a former Pepperdine standout. Clifford hit .471 with five homers and 10 runs batted in the week ending Saturday. Christensen hit .526 with three homers and seven RBIs.

AROUND THE LEAGUES
Rancho Cucamonga first baseman Mike Mitchell (Rio Mesa) was named minor league player of the month for April. Mitchell hit .363 with four homers and 30 RBIs in April. He led the minors with 14 doubles.
Mitchell missed the first half of last season with a shoulder injury before being released by the New York Yankees. The San Diego Padres signed him in December.

Scanning Tuesday’s box scores: TRIPLE A--Right-hander Roger Salkeld (Saugus) won his first game of the season, pitching six innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out 10 for Indianapolis. Salkeld (1-2) has a 6.82 earned-run average. . . Catcher Tim Laker (Simi Valley, Oxnard College) had three singles for Rochester, N.Y. . . Jim Bruske (Palmdale) pitched eight scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out seven, but did not get a decision for Las Vegas. CLASS A--Designated hitter Nate Dishington (Hoover) hit his third homer and had four runs batted in for Prince William, which plays in Woodbridge, Va. . . Outfielder Will Skett had three hits, including his fifth homer and a double, for Dunedin, Fla. . . Outfielder Gabe Kapler (Taft, Moorpark College) hit his fifth homer and had six RBIs for Lakeland, Fla. . . Right-hander Brandon Knight (Buena, Ventura College) gave up two earned runs and struck out 10 in an eight-inning complete game for Port Charlotte, Fla., but lost, 3-2. Knight (3-2) has a 1.69 ERA. . . Left-hander Chris Garza (Notre Dame) picked up a victory with an inning of relief for Fort Wayne, Ind. Garza (3-0) lowered his ERA to 1.77. . . First baseman Robert Fick (Newbury Park, Ventura College, Cal State Northridge) had three hits, including his seventh homer and 15th double, for West Michigan. Fick, who has hits in all 21 games he’s played, was batting .419.
