Irvine Gets Past Santa Margarita

Tracy Habiger drove in Lindsay Mathews, who singled to lead off the fourth inning, with the winning run as Irvine defeated Santa Margarita, 1-0, in a Sea View League softball game at Irvine Wednesday.
Colleen Young (11-4) pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk for sixth-ranked Irvine (16-8, 5-2). Ninth-ranked Santa Margarita drops to 14-8-1, 3-4.
In another Sea View League game:
Woodbridge 8, Corona del Mar 0--Tracy Alcaraz pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 to win her eighth game for third-ranked Woodbridge (26-2, 7-0). Nichole Thompson had three hits and Lizzy Lemire drove in three runs for the Warriors.
In the Golden West League:
Ocean View 13, Santa Ana 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Sara Gulla pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven, and Lovieanne Jung hit her third home run and had two RBIs for the Seahawks (14-7, 7-0).
Rosary 1, Tustin 0--Marissa Perez hit a two-out single in the sixth to score Erin Connors and reliever Laura Fulton got the final two outs with the tying run on second to earn the save for host Rosary (17-7, 4-3).
Westminster 9, Saddleback 1--Lacy Hauxhurst hit two two-run homers, driving in four runs and scoring twice for Westminster (15-5-1, 6-1). Ashley Maranto (7-2) pitched a one-hitter, striking out nine without giving up a walk for the Lions.
San Clemente 8, Mission Viejo 2--Tara Frazer had two hits and drove in two runs and Nicole Henry added two hits for the Tritons (14-8, 6-1).
Trabuco Hills 2, Capistrano Valley 1 (9 innings)--Megan Kirby hit an RBI single to drive in Lori Kwiatkowski from third with the winning run in the top of the ninth for visiting Trabuco Hills (11-10, 2-4).
In Sea View League golf:
Fritz medals--Nicholas Fritz of Santa Margarita finished with a combined score of 148 to win the individual league title. Teammate Jimmy Pittenger finished second with a two-day score of 151. Fritz shot a two-over-par 74 both days at Santa Ana Country Course. Both advance to the Southern Section individual championship, as does Chad Towersey of Corona del Mar (151), Nate Blauer of Santa Margarita (153) and Justin Shapiro of Newport Harbor (153).
In the Sunset League:
Los Alamitos 174, Huntington Beach 190--Jon Shilling shot a two-under 33 and teammate Brett Dolch shot one-under 34 at Cypress Golf Club for seventh-ranked Los Alamitos (17-1, 10-0), which finished with a school-record team total of one-under to beat eighth-ranked Huntington Beach (13-5, 6-4).
Ken Kato shot a 34 to lead Huntington Beach.
In Century League boys’ tennis:
Foothill 12, Canyon 6--David Jerney won his sets, 6-1, 7-6, 6-3, and Jared Goodman won two sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, to help Foothill (14-5, 9-1) clinch the league championship.
In the Golden West League individual tournament:
Top-seeded Moore moves into final--Ryan Moore of Servite cruised through his quarterfinal and semifinal matches without losing a game. Moore will take on seventh-seeded Thong Phan of Saddleback in today’s final at Los Caballeros. In the doubles final, Brock Heimann and Mike Melby of Servite will take on Saddleback’s Hien Le and Vu Le.
In the Sea View League:
Woodbridge 16, Newport Harbor 2--Top-ranked Woodbridge (20-0, 10-0) finished a perfect regular season, the first in the team’s history.
In South Coast League boys’ volleyball:
Dana Hills 3, Trabuco Hills 1--Jim Polster had 15 kills and Jacob Caldwell had 37 assists in four games, 6-15, 15-0, 15-6, 15-13, for Dana Hills (9-6, 7-2).
