Police Station Plans Open House Activities

Residents will be able to take tours, meet local officers and sample the latest technology today at the Van Nuys community police station’s sixth annual open house.
Demonstrations are planned at various booths, including those set up by K-9 search & narcotics dog units, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, the Valley Traffic Division, 911 operators and the reserve officer unit. Children 2 to 10 will have the chance to be photographed and fingerprinted.
Another perennially popular display is planned by the Community Effort to Combat Auto Theft, which will have two Porsches on hand--one new and one stripped down--to illustrate how theft can be prevented.
No part of the station will be off-limits, organizers said, including the cells where people under arrest are held.
The event, sponsored by the Mid Valley Community Police Council, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Van Nuys Boulevard and Erwin Street. For more information, call (818) 756-8308 or 755-9485.
