Fargas’ Fastest 100 Surprises Fletcher

Justin Fargas of Notre Dame High won two individual events, including an upset of Miguel Fletcher of Alemany in the 100 meters, and ran a leg on the winning 1,600 relay team in the Mission League track and field finals at La Verne University on Friday.

Fletcher, the defending Southern Section Division III champion in the 100 and 200, had beaten fellow junior Fargas in several 100-meter races earlier this season. But Fargas clocked a personal best of 10.58 seconds to defeat him by .07 of a second Friday.

Fargas won the triple jump at 44-6 3/4 and ran a leg on Notre Dame’s 1,600 relay team that set a school record of 3:17.58. But the Knights’ highly regarded 400 relay team failed to finish after dropping the baton.
