Christians Rally on National Mall

Waving banners that said “Jesus Christ Is Our King” beneath umbrellas warding off a spring shower, thousands of Christians gathered at the Washington Monument for the annual Global March for Jesus. Organizers said similar gatherings were occurring during the weekend in 600 U.S. cities and 85 countries. The marches provide a chance for “Christians to come together regardless of denomination and racial boundaries to proclaim Jesus Christ as king of kings and lord of lords,” said organizer Art Snow, a pastor at a Brentwood, Md., church. Now in its fifth year, the march on the National Mall drew 23,000 participants in 1992. Organizers hoped to attract about half that number this year.
