It was the third time the teams faced each other. On April 27, Ellis and Karimov won, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6, in the Ojai Valley tournament final. On March 9, Cummings and Oechel won a single-set match, 8-6.
In the semifinals earlier in the day, Ellis and Karimov defeated Nathan Bell and Doug Neagle of Salisbury State, 6-3, 7-5. Ellis and Karimov finished 21-1.
Ellis, a 1991 graduate of Camarillo High, was the 1996 singles champion. He lost in the second round of the singles tournament last week. Karimov, formerly of Pierce and Valley, lost in the first round of singles play.
