I read your May 28 obituary for Cal Hamilton (“Calvin Hamilton, 72; L.A.’s Former Planning Chief Led Agency 20 Years”).
In developing a general plan for the city of Los Angeles with broad public participation in the late ‘60s, Cal proved himself to be a creative urban planner. Also, in a rare combination, he displayed civic courage.
Had the powers of the city seen fit to enact more of the plan he developed, our city would be a better place to live today.
