The city has submitted an application to the Urban Forestry Grant program for money to plant about 900 trees in residential neighborhoods.
More than 9,000 residential sites need trees, officials said. In addition, more than 3,000 residents have called the urban forestry office requesting that a parkway tree belt be provided in front of their homes.
Applications are being accepted for the grant, drawn from the California Wildlife, Coastal and Park Land Conservation Bond Act of 1988, also known as the Proposition 70 fund.
