Adding to Gun Laws Won’t Save Lives

Regarding the letter “Gun Control Bills Should Get Support” (May 25):

Samuel M. Rosen’s final paragraph says it all. He suggests more support for additional gun control as a tribute to the teller who lost her life in the Thousand Oaks bank robbery.

This is really an emotional response!

We all feel bad for the victim but more restrictive laws would not have made a difference. We already have volumes of gun laws that when violated are often negotiated away during the plea-bargain process. Punish those who break these existing laws and don’t be so anxious to grant parole.

A positive action would be to support concealed-carry permits for law-abiding citizens, as the majority of states have already done. As a result, they have experienced a drop in crime.
