Expansion Plan

Regarding Mayor Richard Riordan’s lack of a public position, what is all of this talk about quality of life in local neighborhoods (“Riordan Avoids a Position on Universal Studios Plan, May 28”)? It appears to me that these well-to-do neighbors object to anything resembling progress in the area. Could these people who fear increased traffic and pollution be the same ones who oppose the Metro Red Line that will include a Universal City station?
Greater facilities for entertainment should be encouraged, for goodness sake. Wake up and smell the economy!
Does anyone fear that Universal’s 25-year plan includes belching smokestacks, slaughterhouses or nuclear reactors? With this mind-set, 20th Century Fox would be stuck with hundreds of acres and Century City would still be on the drawing boards.
