5 Sex Offenders Arrested in Sweep

Five convicted sex offenders were arrested Thursday after a routine check showed they had failed to register their latest addresses with police, officials said.

Detectives with the Buena Park Police Department said they reviewed the city’s list of registered sex offenders earlier this year, when a state law took effect allowing police to warn neighbors if a high-risk offender is living among them.

Over the last three weeks, police found five serious sex offenders who had not registered with authorities for at least three years, Sgt. Ken Coovert said. Convicted sex offenders are required by law to update their address with police each year, even if it hasn’t changed. Several of those arrested Thursday were still living at the address last reported to police but at least two had moved, Coovert said.

Arrested during the sweep were Stephen John Zuk, 32, Charles E. Myers, 25, Joseph David Losoya, 34, Billy Charles Annis, 46, and Manuel Alfredo Campos, 48.

All five were arrested on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender, a felony, Coovert said. The investigation showed no high-risk sex offenders living in Buena Park, he said.
