WASHINGTON — As a warmup to a Martha’s Vineyard getaway beginning today, President Clinton ignored record-breaking 102-degree heat to sweat through 18 holes of golf Saturday.
The president finished a full round at Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria, Va., just across the Potomac from the White House, despite a National Weather Service heat advisory issued due to a 110-degree heat index.
The 102-degree mark taken at National Airport at 1:39 p.m. EDT was Washington’s highest ever. The previous record for the day was 95 in 1995.
