Negotiations on Airport Expansion Called Off

Burbank called off negotiations with the Burbank Airport Authority on Friday, saying talks in the long-running dispute over airport expansion have reached an impasse.

“This means we are going to be in litigation for many, many years to come,” Burbank Mayor Bob Kramer said after announcing that the second round of mediation in 16 months had been fruitless.

The Airport Authority, seemingly caught by surprise, had no comment on the city’s announcement. Airport spokesman Sean McCarthy first said that he was unaware that the talks had been called off, then called the timing suspect because the people involved in the negotiations were traveling and could not be located.
