Marriott Considers Resort Site Left by Disney

An Orange County ocean-view resort site, abandoned by Walt Disney Co. in a retreat from the time-share business, will instead be developed by Marriott International Inc., sources said. Marriott apparently is still researching legal issues and working out plans for the 70-acre site. The deal in its final form isn’t expected to be announced until next year. Disney paid Irvine Co. a reported $25 million for 35 acres in 1993, bought 10 more acres later and has an option for the remaining 25 acres. Disney initially planned a $250-million complex with a Mediterranean theme.
