Expanded Senior Center Reopens

The Redondo Beach Senior Center has long offered everything from square-dancing to bingo, and now the volunteer-run hangout is providing something new: an expanded facility.
The center, located in Veterans Park, recently reopened after an extensive one-year renovation. The city spent $676,296, using a community development block grant and funds from Proposition A, a 1992 voter-approved parks bond initiative, to rebuild the facility. The new center is almost double its former size and includes a classroom, large activity room and a new shuffleboard area with an ocean view.
“It’s an unbelievable building. We really enjoy it,” said Senior Center President Rocco “Rocky” Robelotto, who organized events at a local church while the new center was built.
“It’s very airy and beautiful . . . now we have more room available for luncheons and bingo.”
