Neill and White Share Foothill League Award

Hart High quarterback David Neill and Valencia running back Manuel White have been selected co-players of the year in the Foothill League.
Neill, a senior, helped the Indians win their seventh consecutive Foothill title.
White, a sophomore, helped Valencia reach the Division II playoffs.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
AA OK: Marc Goodson, a senior linebacker at Cal State Northridge, was selected to the Associated Press Division I-AA All-American third team.
In two seasons with the Matadors, Goodson established school career records with 290 tackles, 163 unassisted tackles and 127 assisted tackles.
WRESTLING
Golden boys: Highland, defending Southern Section Division IV dual meet and individual champion, is ranked first in the section’s preseason poll.
The Bulldogs, five-time defending Golden League champions, were 35-4 last season and defeated Norwalk Glenn for the section dual meet title. Highland was defeated by Glenn in the final in 1995 and 1996.
Highland placed 11th last week in the El Dorado tournament. John Garfinkle placed first at 140 pounds. Stuart Young, defending section champion, placed second at 160.
Ventura is ranked second in Division I. The Cougars placed fourth at El Dorado. Rio Mesa is ranked eighth.
Quartz Hill is ranked eighth in Division IV.
SOCCER
Coaches’ choice: Senior defender Edwin Astudillo of Cal Lutheran has been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America All-American third team.
