The American Volleyball Coaches Assn. has announced its All-America teams and six county women are honored.
Selected to all-district teams at the Division I level were Misty May (Newport Harbor/Long Beach State), Roberta Gehlke (Mater Dei/UC Santa Barbara), Jill Meyers (Huntington Beach/Massachusetts), Kim Coleman (Corona del Mar/UCLA) and Jennifer Kessy (Dana Hills/USC). Golden West College’s Mariah Marquis was a second-team AVCA community college selection.
Also selected were Nique Crump and Benishe Dillard from Long Beach. Brian Gimmillaro, who guided the 49ers to their first Big West Conference tournament title, was named one of nine district coaches of the year.

Harriman Cronk, chairman of the Rose Bowl Football Committee, and former Angel pitcher Clyde Wright will be featured speakers at the Sports Newsmakers Luncheon Tuesday at the Pond.
The luncheon--which starts at 11:30 a.m.--is open to the public and reservations are suggested. Cost is $20, $15 for members of the Orange County Sports Hall of Fame. For more information, call (714) 758-0222.
