City to View Plan for Park Restoration

An extensive cleanup and restoration plan for the city’s beloved but decaying Fairview Regional Park will go before the City Council on Monday for consideration.
Plans call for cleaning up the Placentia Avenue park, restoring ecologically sensitive areas, preserving animal habitats, providing more access for the disabled and adding a new trail and parking. The wilderness feel of the park is expected to be preserved.
“It’s really a focal point for a lot of the west-side,” Mike Robinson, a city planner, said of the 208-acre park. “It borders Mesa Verde and the northwest side of the city, and it’s pretty significant in its size and importance to the community.”
Council members also will consider registering the park into the Natural Community Conservation Plan, which would qualify it for federal funding. The restoration plans could cost about $9.2 million, with funding sources still being explored, Robinson said.
The council meets at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall, 77 Fair Drive.
