Lane Closure Planned for Vincent Thomas Bridge
- Share via
Welding and painting work on the Vincent Thomas Bridge--part of a $26-million seismic retrofit--will cause closure of the westbound right lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Jan. 16, excluding Christmas, New Year’s Day and Jan. 2, according to Caltrans.
The closures, beginning today, are part of a project that has been underway since April and is expected to be completed by the end of next year. The current work is on the east tower of the 33-year-old bridge that connects San Pedro and Terminal Island.
The retrofit is intended to reinforce the bridge so that it can withstand a major earthquake. Construction crews are making improvements to the roadway, to support columns and underneath the bridge.
