“It was immensely gratifying to see the clarity of focus at the Promise Keepers’ rally in Washington. This was not a political event, but men wanting to accept their responsibilities and follow God with their whole heart.”
NAME: Jack W. Hayford
AGE: 63
HOME: Granada Hills
PROFESSION: Christian pastor
LATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Hayford, senior pastor of the 9,000-member Church on the Way in Van Nuys and a well-known Pentecostal leader nationally, counted it “a privilege” to emcee the giant Promise Keepers’ rally Oct. 4 in Washington, D.C.--the big media event in 1997 for the Christian men’s movement. Back in the San Fernando Valley, his church this year took over financial responsibility for the sometimes vandalized Hollywood cross in Cahuenga Pass, creating an endowment to cover maintenance for years to come. The Church on the Way also launched its own radio station, KTLW-FM, in July with 24-hour music and religious programming.
GOALS FOR 1998: To open a graduate-level theological school, The King’s Seminary, in the fall. The interdenominational seminary, first on the West Coast in the Pentecostal-charismatic tradition, will meet on the west campus of the church’s two sites on Sherman Way. Another, broader, goal is to strengthen the Valley Pastors Fellowship, a group of 75 to 100 charismatic and evangelical pastors.
