Mother Sought in Death of Baby

ORANGE — Police issued an arrest warrant Wednesday for a woman whose infant son died of a drug overdose, which investigators attribute to his mother’s breast milk.
Robert Henry Sage, 6 weeks old, died in October 1996 after being found unconscious in his baby crib. The cause of death was an overdose of methamphetamines, according to a police statement.
His mother, 38-year-old Cynthia Ann Pinson, was living on Trenton Street in Orange at the time but later moved to Stanley Street in Long Beach. Police said they don’t know where she is now but said she might be living with her boyfriend, Robert Earl Sage, 50.
Lt. Craig Schmelter said he wasn’t sure why detectives were only now issuing the arrest warrant, which seeks Pinson on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to a child.
“It appears that this wasn’t intentional,” Schmelter said.
Pinson is described as white, 5-feet-6, 115 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call detectives Mike Harper or Matt Miller at (714) 744-7403 or (714) 744-7556.
