The Human Factor

Kristine McKenna’s interview of Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson (“Compatible Compatriots,” Dec. 22) was excellent: intelligent human beings, who happen to be actors, with something to say, and quoted at length and in context. It was a real pleasure to read.

McKenna writes that in “Sense and Sensibility,” Emma Thompson “created a part specifically for Rickman.” Really? How about a little credit to Jane Austen!

Although I enjoyed McKenna’s piece and am looking forward to seeing the film, please give credit where credit is due. “The Winter Guest” did not premiere at London’s Almeida Theatre; the production was commissioned by the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, opening there in February 1995. It then transferred to the Almeida.
