“I was in Burgundy for the Hospices de Beaune auction and had dinner with Jean and Noel Francois. They own Francois Freres and make barrels for us, for the Hospices and for the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti. The combination of great company, good food and a very willing host--in terms of popping corks--made for a memorable evening. I particularly remember the 1989 Grands-Eschezeaux from DRC. The whole evening made me very glad that I make Pinot Noir.”
