Market Mergers

Re “Ralphs Takeover Plan Is Distasteful to Studio City Group,” Dec. 10.
Competition is what built this country to what it is today. When there is no competition, the big chains don’t have to worry about low pricing because there is no one to compete with.
I can’t believe them when they say the merger will create lower prices for the consumer. Competition is a stabilizer, and yes, it helps keep inflation down.
With competition, the consumer is the winner. It also allows the consumer to buy more, thereby creating more business for the chains.
