Pedestrian Hospitalized After Drive-By Shooting

A man who was shot three times as he walked on an Oakwood street was in satisfactory condition Monday, police said.

The 30-year-old Venice Beach resident, whose name has not been released, was walking south on Electric Avenue near San Juan Avenue at 12:45 a.m. Sunday when a black sport utility vehicle pulled alongside him, said Det. Pete Waack of the Los Angeles Police Department.

When the man ran, an assailant in the car fired several times, striking the victim twice in the left leg and once in the left arm, Waack said. He was taken to Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital for treatment.

The victim is not associated with a gang, Waack said. But he said he suspects the assailants are gang members.

The shooting is the most recent in a series in which one man was killed and another was injured since Dec. 11.

Richard Martin, 34, was fatally shot Dec. 19 on 6th Avenue in Oakwood as he sat outside his fiancee’s house waiting to pick up his daughters, Waack said. On Dec. 11, a 21-year-old man was shot four times in the 4800 block of Slauson Avenue.
