A delivery man charged with shooting his girlfriend and burying her in a shallow grave under their East Los Angeles home surrendered to authorities Thursday morning, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detectives said.
Allen Romano, 31, arrived at the East Los Angeles sheriff’s station with his attorney and was immediately arrested and held in lieu of $1 million, said Deputy Kimberly Unland.
His girlfriend, Victoria Mendez, 33, was reported missing by her sister on May 26. The next day, Romano disappeared with a delivery truck owned by his employer.
Sheriff’s detectives searched the couple’s hillside home on June 5, discovering the grave in a storage area. Mendez had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, said Unland.
Charges were filed against Romano June 11. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning.
