List of 6 Candidates for LAPD Chief Certified
- Share via
After a series of interviews Wednesday, a Los Angeles city screening committee certified a list of six semifinalists for police chief and forwarded the names to the Police Commission for its consideration.
As expected, the candidates are: LAPD deputy chiefs Bernard Parks, David Gascon, and Mark Kroeker; LAPD Cmdr. Art Lopez; Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Chief Lee D. Baca and Sacramento Police Chief Arturo Venegas.
The screening committee reviewed 32 applications before choosing the six contenders. Earlier this week, Salt Lake City Police Chief Ruben Ortega, who also was a semifinalist for the job, withdrew his candidacy.
The commission is scheduled to interview the candidates in two weeks and submit a list of three finalists, in order of preference, to the mayor by July 29. The mayor then makes the final decision, which must be approved by the City Council.
