Msgr. James Hourihan; Pastor in Pasadena for 27 Years

Msgr. James Hourihan, 90, pastor of a Pasadena church for 27 years. Hourihan became pastor of St. Andrew’s Church in Pasadena on Dec. 21, 1955, and retired June 25, 1982. He was given the title monsignor by Pope John XXIII in 1961. Born in Dunmanway, Ireland, Hourihan was educated at St. Finbar’s College in Cork and All Hallows College in Dublin. He was ordained in Dublin in 1931. He came to Los Angeles in 1936 as assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Church and later served as an assistant at St. John’s and St. Alphonsus. He was the founding pastor of St. Luke’s Parish in Temple City in 1946 and remained there until his transfer to Pasadena. On Tuesday in Los Angeles.
