Daniel MacMasters; Architecture, Gardening Editor

Daniel MacMasters, 84, editor known for architectural and gardening expertise. MacMasters was an associate editor of Home magazine, a Sunday supplement formerly published by the Los Angeles Times. Two freelance photographers who worked for him, George Szanik and Julius Shulman, remembered MacMasters as an editor supportive of their exacting work photographing the designs and structures of architects. In 1962, MacMasters accepted a merit award “in recognition of the outstanding garden section” from the Los Angeles chapter of the California Assn. of Nurserymen. MacMasters joined The Times staff in 1969 and retired in 1978. On June 26 in Tucson, Ariz.
