Piranha update--Anaheim played its way out of playoff contention last week in a 49-35 home loss to San Jose. Quarterback John Kaleo had a rough night, with four interceptions and only one touchdown pass. Rodney Mazion set a Piranha franchise record for return yards in a season. His 139 kickoff return yards gave him 1,065 this season, breaking his 1996 record of 1,008. The Piranhas have a league-high nine players on injured reserve.
Storm update--Tampa Bay is the defending Arena Bowl champion and has won four of the last five titles but it has struggled this season. The Storm stopped a two-game losing streak last week with a 42-31 victory over the Texas Terror. Quarterback Peter Tom Willis, who played at Florida State and with the Chicago Bears, completed 17 of 30 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.
