An Apple a Day Keeps the New Yorkers Away

Re “In New York, L.A. Isn’t Even on the Map” (July 9): Does New York-based Los Angeles Times writer Josh Getlin’s take on the L.A. / N.Y. rivalry really mean that all those pasty New York dough people are staying put right there? This calls for a celebration.
Yes, there’s room enough for everyone in this world, but if you don’t like my room, stay out and take your grubby Bowery blowhards with you.
Why an “L.A. boy” would relocate to ground zero for the ugly American is not just a mystery to me, it’s against all the laws of nature.
And just what is a “real city”? Huge skyscrapers crammed together like giant upright sardines blocking the sun and sucking out any room to move? I’m guessing this has a lot to do with the locals’ fluorescent glow and pent-up ramblings.
Hey, New York! Stop flapping your jaws for just one N.Y. minute and pay attention. The glory days are over. Babe Ruth’s dead. You have no sunny side of the street. That’s ours now.

Bravo for Josh Getlin.
If only all the people that Getlin says want to move to New York and all the people with “I (Heart) NY” bumper stickers would just go there, what a place La-La Land would be for the rest of us who are willing to tolerate and try to correct our shortcomings.
To put it another way: If New York is such a good place to be from, how come there are so many people from there here?
Have a nice day.
