2 LAPD Officials Ask to Keep Salaries Despite Demotions

Two top Los Angeles Police Department executives appealed to a panel of lawmakers Friday to allow them to keep their salaries despite recent demotions, but the three-member committee plans to consult the full City Council on the matter next week.
Personnel Committee Chairwoman Jackie Goldberg said she and council members Laura Chick and Mark Ridley-Thomas had reached a conclusion about the fate of former Assistant Chiefs Ron Banks and Frank Piersol but refused to disclose it.
Interim Police Chief Bayan Lewis removed Banks and Piersol two months ago and warned them that their salaries would be reduced unless they retired by July 1.
