Sheriff’s deputies Monday were still searching for a 22-year-old Ventura man who slipped out of his handcuffs and walked away from an interview room at the department’s Government Center headquarters Saturday.
Raymond Anthony Perez escaped at 1:40 a.m. after his arrest in Camarillo on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and giving false information to a police officer, authorities said.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Will Howe said Perez and two other people were taken into custody in a parking lot off Daily Drive in Camarillo about 8:30 p.m. Friday. All three were taken to department headquarters at the Ventura County Government Center.
Perez was handcuffed by one arm to a table in the interview room and left alone while awaiting questioning, he said.
But somehow Perez slipped out of his handcuffs.
Perez is described as 5-feet-10, 140 pounds with brown hair, a crew cut and hazel eyes.
Authorities say Perez has numerous tattoos.
