From Times Wire Reports
The government reported the nation’s first case of the so-called “mad cow” disease. The announcement came after tests were carried out on a dead cow that was part of a herd on a farm in Havelange, in the province of Namur. Agriculture Minister Karel Pinxten said all 33 animals on the farm will be destroyed, as will all cattle originating from the farm. Pinxten could not say what caused that particular animal to contract the disease, known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy.
