Fullerton, looking for its first five-game winning streak under Coach Gene Murphy, hosts Golden West at 7 tonight in a Mission Conference Central Division game at Cal State Fullerton.
The Hornets, who are ranked 25th in the nation by the J.C. Grid-Wire, started the season with two consecutive losses but have won the last four, including three on the road.
In the most recent victory, 65-48 over Palomar, Fullerton set a single-game school record for touchdowns with nine. The victory also put Murphy, in his fifth year at the college, over .500 with a 23-22-2 record.
The defense also came up with some big plays, including two interceptions each by Richie Williams, Mike Flores and Frankie Salazar. Defensive end Chuck Pine had eight tackles, including two sacks, and returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown.
A victory by Fullerton (4-2, 2-0) would move the Hornets into a first-place tie with Santa Ana in the division. Santa Ana (3-3, 3-0) is playing a non-divisional game at San Diego Mesa at 1 today. Mesa has a nation-leading 27-game losing streak.
Golden West (2-4, 1-2) is coming off a 28-6 victory over district rival Orange Coast that included a season-high 154 yards rushing by freshman running back Danny Rubalcava.
Quarterback John Frank also had four touchdown passes to increase his Orange County-leading total to 12.
In another Central Division game:
Saddleback (3-3, 1-1) at Orange Coast (0-6, 0-3), 1 p.m.--Saddleback has lost two in row, including a 52-28 beating by Santa Ana last week. Saddleback had six turnovers in the loss but was outdone by Orange Coast, which turned the ball over seven times in the loss to Golden West. The loss was the 14th in a row for OCC.
